Episode 17 - The Ambush Games

(Episode 2.07)

Ravi slowly opened his eyes. His head was banging with a massive headache and took a while for his eyes to adjust to the lights in the room.

"Master!" Avery ran over to him and helped him up.

"Where are we? What happened? Is everyone okay?" Ravi asked his apprentice.

"Everyone is fine. You're the last to wake up. However we have no idea where we are" Avery told him as she helped him stumble towards the rest of the Redemption Crew.

As Ravi looked around all he saw were bright arteficial lights and large greyplated walls with his crew looking around as confused as he is.

"Of all the moments to sleep in you choose now" Skelly said as Ravi and Avery approached him.

"Very funny" Ravi said sarcastically and let go of Avery, having recovered most of his footing.

"So what do you make of all this?" Skelly asked Ravi, hoping for some Jedi insight.

"Since i'm apparently the last to awake i figure we'll found out soon enough" Ravi said as he continued to look around.

"We were just on the ship talking and suddenly we woke up here" Natalie said in disarray.

"Speaking of the ship. Where is the Redemption?" Haracus wondered.

"How can a whole ship just disappear?" Nalyal wondered.

"The probability of that is rather minimal" Cyborg responded.

Suddenly a loud crack came from radio speakers up high in the empty room. Two soft voices came out.

"Welcome all" The first voice began.

"Welcome all to the galaxy's ninth official Ambush Games" The second voice finished the sentence.

The voices were almost identical with a slight difference in delivery of their words. Both soft spoken, sounding almost hypnotic with an eerie presence.

"Ambush Games? What the hell" Cameron voiced his opinion.

"Today, each and every one of you will be applied strange roles and compete in a game of wits and cunning" The first voice picked up again and the second voice continued; "A game that may seem cruel to all, but will proof the salvation of the galaxy in the end"

"Salvation of the galaxy?" Ravi muttered to himself.

"We will be your hosts during this fine event. We are called the Host Brothers. Do not think of us but mere gamemakers. The entire game lies in your own hands"

"No then Brother. Shall we begin?"

"We shall brother. Good luck to all the players"

The voices stopped and it was dead silent for a moment. Then suddenly Natalie started screaming. As Ravi turned around he saw the image of Haracus disappearing before everyone's eyes.

"Teleportation technology!?" Bogore was baffled to his own technology at work here. He then too was teleported away.

One by one the crew of the Redemption teleportated away before Ravi's eyes until it was finally his turn.

Ravi then found himself on some green plains. The long grass waving past his legs. saw the rest of the Crewmembers around him. They were all transported to the same location. As they looked around more people appeared before them, however they were not crewmembers of the redemption.

Amongst them were several alien creatures and what seemed to be a Weequay bounty hunter in full gear.

They were shocked to see the crewmembers of the redemption and Darren signaled for them to calm down.

Then the voices came on the radio again.

"All players have now gathered in the setting for our game. We've chosen a setting that represents terrain of several planets" The first Host Brother began.

"Indeed Brother. All the players will remain as a large group while traversing our game setting. Together over the course of "days" each and anyone of you will result in a voting." The second brother continued.

"We've planted all of the players with a chip in their head wich contains the data of a certain 'role' the player will take on throughout the game"

"This role is to remain unknown to the other players. Roles may be revealed. But will the ones who do be speaking the truth"

"Not every player has a role however. Some are considered 'normals' in the afair. They are at the mercy of those that do have a role. Wether it be good or bad"

"Indeed brother. We have players divided in two groups. The loyals and the properly named Scum"

"Each side has its very own roles and assets"

"Roles include Loyal Inspector, Protector, Scum Murderer and leader"

"These roles only work as night actions. Meaning they will take effect during the nights. Voting of your role players would be quite insufficient"

"What the roles do however, is known by those who possess the chips in their heads"

"Your goal is to reach the end of our Ambush Game setting and bring victory to either your loyal or Scum counterparts"

"Throughout the day you will all debate and discuss and figure out who is right for the cleansing"

"A vote will be held before the night falls where the player with most votes will be eliminated from the game"

"Voting is mandatory. A no vote will always go to the one with most votes"

"Well said brother. Now then... let the Ambush Games begin"

The voices fell silent once more.

The Bounty Hunter raised his blaster towards the Redemption Crew.

"I don't know how i got here or who the hell you people are. But i do not intend to play this Ambush Game" He looked very frustrated.

"Please calm down. Raising blasters won't get us anywhere" Ravi tried to calm the bounty hunter down.

"As if i'd listen to a Jedi. You're probably the reason we are in this mess"

"And why is that?" Ravi wondered.

"The Jedi are part of the Clone Wars. I wouldn't be surprised if this is some weird set up to capture a Jedi alive by some separatist or bounty hunting scum. Your kind fetches a high price"

"Then why set up this elaborate game instead of just killing everyone and taking the Jedi?" one of the other people who teleportated in with the bounty hunter said.

The Bounty Hunter lowered his blaster and looked very annoyed at the man.

"They said to reach the end of the setting. I think if we have anywhere to start it should be there" Talia cut the tension.

"We're not sure what awaits us there. But hanging out in this field bickering won't do any good either" Haracus explained.

"Alright then. It is decided. We'll head off" Ravi took the lead.

"Hold on a moment who put you Jedi in charge" The Bounty Hunter sounded very annoyed still.

"This Jedi has been in many freak situation and is most likely to save your life and that of the other you teleportated in with. So like it or not, i'll be leading our travel through this arena" Ravi showed his authority towards the Hunter.

The crewmembers followed Ravi immediately who in turn were followed by the other people. The Hunter sighed and joined the group anyway.

Further ahead in the arena the group stepped off the grassy plains and suddenly set foot in a rocky wetland enviroment.

"Strange how these enviroments are so close together. I can even see snowfall and possible rivers of molten lava in the distance" Cyborg said.

"I doubt we are on a actual planet" Darren pointed out.

"What if we are on board a massive ship transformed into a gaming arena of sorts?" Avery offered an explanation.

"That's crazy talk! ...right?" Cameron started to doubt the theory.

"I'm more troubled by these chips in our heads and these 'roles' we're supposedly playing" Haracus told the others.

"I have felt nothing as of yet though. Maybe i'm one without a role?" Natalia scratched her head.

"You people actually believe this nonsense?" The Bounty Hunter couldn't help but interrupt.

"Trust me when i say this wouldn't be the weirdest thing we have encountered" Skelly laughed it off a bit.

"We've been through a lot. Maybe these host brother are lying. But seeing as they set all of this up we have a reason not to doubt their words" Ravi told the hunter in a calm, Jedi-like manner.

"Well i don't believe none of it. I'd rather just shoot our way out of here unlike you Jedi"

"I'd expect nothing less. It's your way of dealing with things. But this is our way. And my name is Ravi-Idej"

"Stevlon Merrick" The Bounty Hunter told his name as well.

"Well Stevlon. How did you end up here?" Ravi asked.

"Probably the same way all of us did. I was just casually flying around and suddenly i woke up in a poorly lit room made of grey steel plates. I was with these people in there. That is why i was so surprised to suddenly see you and your crew infront of me" Stevlon replied.

"We woke up in a same room. We were doing our normal daily bussiness aboard our cruiser The Redemption when suddenly we were here. In this Ambush Game"

"The Redemption huh. I have heard of you lot before. Trying to 'redeem' this galaxy from war and terror. If you believe it yourself. Look what a strange mess you're in now" Stevlon gave some harsh critique.

"Mr. Merrick. Strange messes are our speciality" Skelly gave as a witty comeback.

"Can we please stop talking nonsence and figure out where the hell we are!" A frustrated Twi'lek shouted.

"That's what we are hoping to find at the end of the arena" An Umbaran soldier replied.

"What were the roles again the Hosts mentioned?" Avery wondered and started thinking

"Inspector, Protector, Murderer and Leader" Avery continued to talk out loud; "What do you suppose they all do?"

"Murderer seems obvious to me" Daniel said with a dry tone.

"You suppose the protector protects the one targeted for murder?" Darren joined the discussion.

"And what of the Inspector then?" Daniel wondered.

"It is my geuss that the inspector plays a role in discovering other people's  appointed roles. I cannot think of any other logical conclusion" Cyborg said.

"Fair enough. But Scum Leader... what the hell kind of role is that? I mean leader is obvious but how can you lead other 'scum' if you don't even know who they are" Daniel continued to ponder.

"Unless the leader does know who the other scum are" Avery came to the conclusion.

"Why are we even discussing this!" The Twi'lek woman suddenly cried out; "If we are really buying into this loyal and scum thing then i believe the obvious scum here is him"

She pointed at Stevlon who didn't look one bit surprised.

"Always blame the low life" Stevlon rolled his eyes.

"He's a bounty hunter! He kills people for sport! He'll most likely kill us during the night. What if all of this is just a trap laid out by him and his scum buddies!"

The Twi'lek woman stop shouting when she heard a loaded blaster aim at her head and when she turned around she was faced by Stevlon pointing one at her.

"Master" Avery nudged Ravi to do something"

"Don't worry Avery. He won't shoot her"

"Listen up now lady. If i really would murder all of you i would've done it by now. I'm a bounty hunter, i kill for money. Right now i have no contracts that include any of you. So why bother then. Are we clear?" Stevlon intimidated the woman.

The woman clenched her fist and threw and angry glaze at the bounty hunter and then gazed into the barrel of his blaster. She then let her body calm down and started walking forward as if nothing happened.

The group joined her and the journey was picked up again.

Stevlon put his blaster away and looked at Ravi.

"What? I didn't shoot her. Although i wanted to"

"Somehow i felt that you wouldn't do it. Something in your eyes" Ravi told the hunter.

"Don't give me that Jedi mumbo-jumbo now" Stevlon said and walked past Ravi, following the group.

The group reached the edge of the wetland part of the game setting and were met by a large rock. Avery climbed on top to use it as a vantage point to scout the arena.

"I see a large metal door in the distance. It looks like that is where the game arena stops" She told the group; "It seems we have to go through a canyon and a snowstorm first"

"I've been to Hoth. I can handle any snowstorm" Darren bragged a little bit.

"Can you see a place to rest?" Ravi asked his Padawan.

"I see a small cave near the beginning of the canyon"

"Let's head for it" Ravi said and the group followed.

The group reached the cave and set up a small resting camp.

"Is it me or is it getting darker much faster then we are used to. Night is already falling and we'ven only been here several hours" Zorrus said as he looked up to the sky.

As if to taunt them the voices of the Host Brothers appeared in the air again.

"The first day is coming to a close. Voting will now commence"

"You will all vote for the person you consider the most 'scummiest'"

"Say the word vote followed by the name of the player you'd like to see voted off"

"Yes brother. All of you will have 30 minutes to vote. Good luck voting"

With that the voices disappeared again.

"They're really going through with this" Stevlon said.

"What do we do now Master?" Avery asked her master.

"I don't know Avery. I really don't"

Ravi closed his eyes to think.

"VOTE: STEVLON"

Ravi sighed and turned around. He opened his eyes to see the angry Twi'lek woman standing up and pointing her finger at Stevlon.

"Here we go again" Stevlon rolled his eyes; "On what accusation?"

"For being the Scum Murderer role carrier"

"So now you suddenly care for playing the game properly" Stevlon was getting quite annoyed.

"You're jumping to conclusions way too fast lady" Cameron told the woman.

"You stay out of this young man. All of you will be thanking me after we get rid of this low life and survive the night" The woman continued.

"Lady, what is your name?" Stevlon asked her.

"Wha-... I...i... what does that have to do with anything?" The woman was taken aback.

"Your name. I gave you mine now you us yours"

"M-my name is Fleuren... but i don't see what that has to do with anyth-"

"Vote: Fleuren"

The woman's eyes widened after Stevlon said this. Stevlon stood up and looked her straight in the eyes as if to challenge her.

"Y-you can't do that... there is nothing scummy about me. I am loyal obviously! W-why do you even think you can vote for me? You have to vote for the suspicious ones. I AM NOT SUSPICIOUS. What are your accusation against me!?" the woman couldn't quite grasp the situation.

"You're annoying" Stevlon said quite casually.

"You! Jedi!" she then turned to Ravi and Avery; "You think you can just let this play out? Aren't you protectors of the peace. His vote is an attempt on my life"

"Ma'am. Please calm down" Avery asked her.

"The Jedi must've had many run ins with Bounty Hunter on coruscant. How can you let this scum do whatever he wants. He will kill us in the night"

"If he tries anything we will react accordingly" Ravi told the woman.

"Why is no one with me against this scum! If anyone here is a scum it's gotta be him. The evidence is the-"

"Vote: Fleuren!" Cameron suddenly shouted out of frustration and irritation.

The woman couldn't believe what just happened. Neither could the rest of the group.

"Cameron!" Talia couldn't believe what he just did.

"Oh come on guys. It's not like voting actually matters. It's not like we can take this game thing seriously"

"He might be right you know" Daniel somewhat agreed with Cameron.

"If this is truly a game it is a mental or psychological game. Not a game where we vote off people one by one. What is the point of it anyway" Cameron said to the others.

It seemed some were starting to think just like him while others remain skeptic. Ravi rubbed his chin. Not sure what to make of this entire situation.

"Then why not vote for the bounty hunter" Fleuren seemed to have calmed down but still left confused and overwhelmed.

"Would a Loyal be so eager to get someone voted off with proper evidence? You seemed very eager to get this man off our team" Cameron told Fleuren.

"What if we don't vote?" Haracus wondered.

"The Hosts told us that voting is mandatory. I expect there to be dire consequences for all of us if we decide to play against their rules" Cyborg replied.

"Speaking of Hosts. It has been 30 minutes" Zorrus told the group and the voices of the Hosts were heard again.

"Time is up. However not all votes have been cast"

"Since it is the first day we shall be generous"

"Yes brother. We shall give you all a last moment to cast your votes"

"Call them now"

The group stood silent. Unsure about what to do.

Then Ravi stood up and looked up into the sky as if watches the Hosts in their eyes.

"Vote: Ravi-Idej"

The group looked stunned at the Jedi. Even Stevlon was quite taken aback by this bold move.

"I refuse to vote with another life"

Avery quickly understood what her master was doing and stood up doing the same.

"Vote: Avery Thornston" she said out loud.

Slowly but surely the rest of the group began to understood this clever act and they all followed in voting for themselves. Even the Umbaran man named Dexton joined in.

After the voting had ended it was silent for a moment.

Then the voices came again.

"Very well then. All the votes have been counted"

"Most votes go to our Twi'lek player Fleuren"

"Thank you for playing"

Suddenly an eletric current surged through the womans body and she started screaming and shaking in agony. Ravi ran over to her to help her but got electrified just by touching her. He backed off and the woman fell dead at his feet.

"The result of Fleurens role will revealed in the morning"

"The chips in your heads will now read your night actions"

"Goodnight" The voices said simultaneously.

The group looked at the smoking corpse of Fleuren.

"They must've used the chip in her head to kill her" Bogore explained.

"This is partly my fault" Cameron muttered as he stared at the dead Twi'lek.

"Don't beat yourself up too much. You didn't know this would happen" Daniel put his hand on Cameron's shoulder.

"All of you try to get some sleep. I'll bury her" Ravi ordered.

As the group had slowly fallen asleep Ravi was busy digging a grave for poor Fleuren.

"I didn't mean for this to happen" Stevlon came up behind Ravi and he turned around to face him.

"You still voted for her" He replied.

"I did. And i'm glad she stopped yelling. But i have a terrible feeling that we are not going to like the results in the morning" Stevlon seemed to almost feel bad for the woman.

"I don't blame you or anyone for her death though. The ones to blame are the Host Brothers who managed to get us into this game" Ravi told Stevlon.

"Blaming others is not what Jedi do right?"

"Some Jedi tend to be more unconvential" Ravi said with a little bit of sarcasm.

"I'm glad though" Stevlon turned around to walk away but not before finishing his sentence; "Glad that atleast someone is not judging me for what i am"

Ravi watched Stevlon return to camp and then continued digging. As he wiped some sweat of his forehead he heard footsteps behind him.

"I geuss even Bounty Hunters have trouble sleeping" Ravi joked expecting to see Stevlon behind him but as he turned around he was met by a cloaked, hooded figure who took aim at him at close range.

As the Scum Murderer tried to shoot Ravi in the end the Jedi managed to leap away out of the grave in time.

As he landed he activated his lightsaber but the figure was gone. He looked around always holding his lightsaber in a pose ready to block any blasterfire.

He heard the Scum Murderer hide and move in the dark night surrounding him.

Ravi calmed his body down and exhaled. He closed his eyes and listened to the sounds surrounding him.

Eventually he the footsteps stop soon followed by a clicking sound.

Ravi quickly deflected a laser from a blaster.

The light of deflected laser revealed the position of the Murderer and it kept shooting at Ravi.

Because of the flurry of blaster fire he had to deflect Ravi had to take steps backwards and backwards until eventually he fell into the grave he had just dug.

He rubbed his head and realized the perdicement he is in. He looked up and saw the murderer standing above him with an active thermal detonator in its hands, ready to drop it down the grave.

However suddenly another figure flew over the grave and grabbed the murderer.

Ravi jumped out of the grave only to witness the two silhouttes roll down a steep hill followed by an explosion.

Ofcourse the entire group was awoken by this and they immediately came to see what had happened.

Ravi slid down the steep slope but couldn't find any bodies left from the explosion.

"Master are you okay!?" Avery shouted with worry.

"I'm fine Avery. I'll climb back up now" Ravi replied and climbed back up to the canyon.

As he reached the group Avery immediately asked what happened.

"I was attacked by the Scum Murderer but it seems someone protected my life. However i have no idea who it was. Neither do i know who the murderer is"

"Well it couldn't be Fleuren that's for sure" Daniel said and gestured towards the dead body next to the grave Ravi dug.

"Were there no bodies down below?" Skelly asked.

"I just went and checked. Nothing" Ravi shook his head.

"You don't suppose they were both saved by the Hosts to keep the game going?" Bogore wondered aloud.

"Are you thinking the same thing i'm thinking" Ravi looked at Bogore.

"I hadn't spoken of it yet but i assumed to noticed it as well. I believe these Hosts have gotten their hands on teleportation technology. Something i invented" Bogore said.

"We will now announce Fleuren's role" the first voice came as the second day of the game had started.

"Is it me or was that a really short night" Zorrus said.

"Fleuren was a Loyal Helper. This means she was just a normal Loyal player" The second voice revealed.

"I told you it was gonna be bad news" Stevlon said to Ravi.

"Now the results of tonight Inspection" The Host brothers continued.

"The Loyal Inspector chose to inspect Stevlon Merrick"

"Result: Loyal Helper"

"So that is how the inspector role works" Avery thought to herself.

Everyone was expecting the Hosts to go away. However they had one more reveal.

"We have one more reveal"

"Indeed brother. The Scum Leader has the ability to mask loyal inspection"

"Any masked scum inspected will give a false inspection"

"The second day has begun. Get discussing"

The voice went away once more and there was a moment of silence.

"Atleast they told us what the Leader can do" Nalyal tried to lighten the mood a little bit.

"So Stevlon's inspection could've been a false result" Cyborg stated.

"Atleast we can confirm i am not the Murderer" Stevlon said.

"Wait a minute... Ravi look!" Skelly suddenly shouted.

"What is it Skell-" Then Ravi and the rest of the group saw it. The grassy plain they started on and the wetlands they crossed yesterday were gone. A wall of reinforced steel stood before them now.

"The arena is forcing us to go forward" Cyborg immediately deduced.

"This is really freaking me out" Skelly's bones shivered a little.

"I think it is best to keep moving" Ravi said and ordered the group to move forward.

During their trip through the canyon many of the members of the group were discussing. Much more then the day before. This bore Ravi great concern, as if they are playing the game as it was meant to be played right now.

"Ravi. A moment?" Bogore came up to him.

"I know what you want to talk about Bogore. The Teleporter"

"A technology kept only in my records back on Coruscant. They are so valuable to me that i don't even carry them on board the Redemption" Bogore told Ravi.

"And yet these Hosts seem to have gotten hold of it" Ravi concluded.

"I have been thinking hard and i think i've found a plausible theory to this" Bogore said with a little grin.

"Tell me Bogore"

"Remember Zorrus's mentor Geotill Acker. His sabotage of the Redemption. He stole the plans to my teleporter and spoke of strange masters" Bogore began solving the puzzle.

"You believe these Hosts were the masters he talked about?"

"I'm sure of it. Nobody has teleportation technology except for us and the ones Geotill sent it to. There is no other option" Bogore felt both proud of his deduction but also terrified for his invention to fall into the hands of what seemd to be evil.

"Once we meet these Hosts. We will know for sure" Ravi seemed very determinated all the sudden.

"You want to meet these Hosts? I doubt they will ever show their faces to us" Bogore told Ravi.

"That's why i'm coming up with a plan"

Further ahead in the group Zorrus had overheard their conversation and was now left with flashbacks to his late mentor.

Throughout the rest of the group kept discussing.

"You expect the inspection result to be tempered with?" Avery wondered.

"The Hosts suspiciously told us of the masking of inspections after the result of the inspection itself" Natalie said.

"It might be to throw us off" Haracus said.

"What he said" Stevlon casually intervened.

"Does anyone seems like Scum though. That is the question" Nalyal said.

"Nalyal these are our friends" Talia gave a slap on the back of his head.

"Ouch! But what of the chip?" Nalyal used to his defense.

"He's right. Anyone can be scum now. Even someone from our own crew" Cameron said.

"Can i say something?" Dexton the Umbaran spoke up.

"Look who's still here" Stevlon referred to the mans silence before.

"I-i have some to say. But it will put my life at risk"

"Are you sure you want to say it then?" Skelly gave the man a warning and time to think.

"I-i w-will... I am the Loyal Inspector!"

Another silence fell and Stevlon bursted out laughing.

"What's so funny?" Dexton asked.

"You? The Loyal Inspector? Why reveal it now and not earlier"

"I didn't know what the role did" Dexton defended himself.

"Anyone can say they are a role. Doesn't mean we'll instantely believe you"

"You came up as a Loyal because of me!" Dexton started to yell.

"And look where that has gotten me. I'm still not off the hook"

"Not one is" Ravi said as he stepped forward and put his hand on Dexton's shoulder; "You are very brave for admitting your role Dexton. But we cannot make fast conclusions in a game as this, you must understand. We don't want anyone to suffer the same fate as Fleuren"

"But one will"

It was the voice of the first Host. They were back for another announcement.

"The end of the second day is in sight. Voting now commences. You have 30 minutes to cast a vote"

"Run." Ravi took on a face of determination.

"Master?" Avery got a bit worried.

"All of you run. Through that snowstorm ahead. We will reach the end of this blasted arena before someone is voted off and dies again"

Ravi began to run and entered the blizzard ahead. The group watched him in disarray but Avery quickly followed him. One by one the group started to run as fast as they could.

"Are we really doing this?" Dexton shouted and was pulled into the storm by Stevlon.

"Just listen to the Jedi already!" Stevlon yelled as he grabbed him.

Ravi felt the snow on his face. The cold winds hurt. He started thinking to himself how these extreme weather conditions could co-excist so closely to each other. All he understood is that they couldn't be on a planet of any kind. But it also seems rather massive for a space ship. And where did his Redemption go? All these question burned through his mind as he confronted the snow storm. Eventually it started to let up and his feet touch a man made floor instead of a layer of snow.

As he wiped the snow of his hair and face he saw the large iron door infront of him that Avery had mentioned before.

He looked around and saw others of his crew come out of the snowstorm.

As Ravi looked up he noticed a small window peeking above the large door. He could not make them out clearly but he saw two figures watching down on them.

"The Hosts" Ravi muttered to himself and the rest of the group averted their gaze towards the same location.

One of the figures moved slowly and almost ghost-like. It appeared to push on some sort of button. The other did the same and suddenly the voices appeared again.

"You got here faster then expected"

"What a tremendous result for our experiment right brother?"

"Indeed brother. However 28 minutes have passed"

"Voting will end in 2 minutes"

"If no votes are accounted for you will all be eliminated"

"VOTE: AVERY THORNSTON" Avery immediately shouted.

The rest of the group immediately adapted to the same trick again.

"Vote: Stevlon Merrick" Stevlon now joined in as well.

"Vote: Stevlon Merrick" a voice behind Stevlon said.

Stevlon turned around with wide eyes and saw the Umbaran behind him.

"First you inspect me and now you ditch me!?" Stevlon got pretty mad now.

"I-i... i believe the inspection was tempered with by the Scum Leader... by you"

Only Ravi hadn't voted yet.

He silently looked around, trying to think of a plan.

"Only 10 seconds remaining Mr. Idej" The voice of one of the brothers taunted him.

Ravi closed his eyes and rubbed his chin to think.

He then turned around to look up at the brother's silhoutte's watching him.

"Vote: The Host Brothers"

Another silence fell. Not even the Host Brothers seem to move an inch until after what seemed like a minute of silence one of them spoke up.

"Mr. Idej. Will you join us please"

Suddenly a small door opened up next to the larger one.

"Master? What is happening" Avery got worried.

"I'll be fine Avery. The Game is almost over"

"Hurry up though. It's almost night. The Murderer is still about" Stevlon said.

Ravi nodded at Stevlon and entered the door and followed a large staircase upstairs.

Ravi entered the chamber in wich the two brothers were seated. Both of them stood up. They wore long white clothing and both possessed long beards. The scariest part to Ravi however were their faces or the lack there of.

Two completely blank white heads stared down at him. Yet they were still able to speak.

"2 votes for Stevlon Merrick and you voted for us" The first brother started.

"Wich technically makes it a draw"

"Indeed brother. This Jedi is a smart one. Our first Third Party player"

"One we can use"

"Use for what? This salvation of the galaxy you spoke of earlier?" Ravi asked them with a cold tone.

"He catches on quick" The brothers continued.

"I see it brother. Our army is growing. He can lead them"

"What army?" Ravi looks puzzled.

The brothers turned their bodies towards eachother as if they were looking at each other. They then turned back to 'face' Ravi.

"What do you believe these games are for?" One of them asked.

"At first i thought it was a Separatist trap. But i quickly discarded that idea after were teleportated into the arena"

"You noticed the teleportation. We figured you would" The other brother said in turn.

"I've been trying to figure out the purpose of this game. But i believe it is something beyond my own reasoning" Ravi said and clenched his lightsaber hilt.

"It isn't that hard to understand" The brother began to speak in turns again.

"One day we got bored with the galaxy"

"We made these games to test human nature"

"You see, it is entirely experimental"

"These games are a test of strength, wit, cunning and resolve"

"Only the best make it out"

"This way we can gather all the strongest specimens in the galaxy"

"And so we shall create our army"

"And ambush the galaxy at war and bring about salvation for every race"

"Aren't you trying to accomplish the same thing Mr. Idej"

Ravi slowly started to get very angry and frustrated.

"I wish to redeem this galaxy of war and terror. I do. But not in the way you two are doing. You beings are killing off innocents just for entertainment" Ravi detached his lightsaber hilt from his belt.

"Not entertainment. Research value" One brother replied.

"You're toying with death" Ravi glanced at them with anger.

"Death is necessary for the cleansing. No way around it"

"These games are nothing more then a research project. A project that will define that future of the galaxy"

"Not if i have anything to say about it!" Ravi lost his temper and ignited his ligthsaber.

"You're anger is logical. Seeing as you don't possess our vision yet" The brothers weren't taken by fear or shock at all when Ravi ignited his saber.

"However we have measures in our own hands. Try to defy us and your friends die. Making this the shortest Ambush Game ever played"

"Speaking of the game brother. Night of the second has fallen"

"I shall make the announcement brother.

One of the brothers moved toward its seat and pressed a button; "Night two will fall soon. The chips will now send in your night actions"

"Give the Scum Murderer two targets tonight"

"Yes brother"

"The roles are the embodiement of what people are. Some are born stronger while some are born smarter and some are born completely average but still possess a quality that makes them special to others. The roles embrace these facts and put them to good use. No one is born good or evil. Every living being is both aspects at all times. However we still put in the loyal and scum affiliations since living beings tend to archieve better results under the believe of good and evil" The other brother explained to Ravi the importance of the roles.

"The game room is our way of telling stories. We host it. You play it.

"And how are the players chosen?" Ravi wanted to know.

"Randomely. We travel through the galaxy and get who can. Your ship and crew happened to be nearby so we teleportated you all on board.

"You can't teleport an entire ship. It's hard enough to even teleport a person" Ravi was getting confused.

"We used the blue prints Geotill Acker sent us on the day he was on board your ship"

"And then we perfected them"

"We have the strongest teleporter in the galaxy and can teleport every one on board in an instant"

"I'm afraid it is too dangerous then. I'm afraid these are the last Ambush Games ever played" Ravi readied his saber once more.

"Night actions have been sent in brother"

"Activate the chips brother"

The brother pressed another button.

"No!" Ravi shouted as he knew what this meant.

Down on the ground the group was attempting to open the large door.

Unknown to them Natalie had snuck off into the dark of night and was preparing her blaster to kill her target. The Scum Murderer pulled over a dark hood over her head and positioned herself as the sniper she. Natalie took aim for the head of Dexton.

She has no idea who the protector or inspector is. But she knew Dexton wouldn't be protected by any one. He was too absent for that.

"Inspection and protection information is in" The brother told his brother.

"After the night is over. Day three of the game can begin"

As the brother turned around he was faced with a lightsaber close to his throat.

"Call this off now!"

"Kill me then Jedi. We are beings of a higher intelligence. We do no believe death is the end"

Ravi's face was of pure anger, but at them same time he was shaking. He couldn't bear himself to kill the brother as it is too un-jedi-like.

He lowered his saber but the brother was shot and fell to the ground.

"You still believe now?" Stevlon said as he blowed away the steam that came out of his blaster.

Ravi quickly ran over to the console to deactivate the chips. Or atleast attempt to.

He heard a shot and as he looked outside of the window he saw that Dexton the Umbaran had been shot. He couldn't see the murderer anywhere just like everyone on the ground who started to panic.

Ravi tried to find the specific button on the console on the brother's seat but unable to find it quickly.

He made the call to draw out his saber again and bring it down on the console.

He ran to the window and looked outside. Everyone was rubbing their hands and Ravi did the same. As if something in his started itching. "Did it work?" he thought to himself.

"That concludes the Ambush Games" the remaining brother said; "Winner: Ravi-idej, Third Party"

Ravi turned to face him.

"And i believe a thank you is in order"

"For what?" Ravi asked bitterly.

"For all the research you gave us. As a host it was a privilege to meet the player. You can find the teleporter room through that door over there" The brother said and pointed to a door in the back corner of the room; "The large steel door below will open now that the console is destroyed and your friends will find the Redemption there"

The brother turned to window again to look over the arena of his last Ambush Game.

Ravi stared him down for a moment before he ran off to the teleporter room together with Stevlon.

Below the large door had opened and the group stood in awe as they finally saw their beloved Redemption again. They immediately ran for it.

Back on the bridge Cyborg jumped in his chair and started making immediate contact.

"Fierce. Fierce do you copy. It is Cyborg of the Redemption. Do you copy?"

After a moment of silence Fierce's voice came on the commlink.

"Finally, a voice, a something. We've been searching for you all for quite some time now. This is the last time i go have a drink with the boys and leave you all alone"

Some of the crew had to laugh and smile because they knew it was going to end well for them.

Ravi and Stevlon entered the teleporter chamber and it appeared to be a massive machine. Blue electric currents running throughout the entire chamber filling a large disc shaped machine.

"It's almost as big as the core of a cruiser" Ravi looked around in awe and compared to the small, tiny teleporter on board his ship.

"One problem though" Stevlon said with a hint of despair in his voice and Ravi caught it.

"Those electric currents are some of the most sensitive ones in the galaxy. An amount of this together would trigger a chain reaction so fast we won't even make it alive if we destroyed it. We would not be able to outrun it" Stevlon explained to Ravi.

"Then what do we do?" Ravi wondered.

Stevlon looked him dead center in eyes.

"No. No!" Ravi knew what he meant; "If anyone stays behind to sacrifice themselves it is going to be me"

"Don't be foolish. The galaxy won't be better off with another dead Jedi. Besides your crew needs you"

"Then can handle themselves" Ravi said and meant it.

"The galaxy can do with one less Bounty Hunter. I will stay behind and set of the reactor after you and your crew have fled this space station or whatever we are on" Stevlon gestured Ravi towards the door.

"But why... why do this?" Ravi had to ask.

"Give this cheap low life one less shot at redemption. You are the only one who didn't judge me for what i was, but for who i am. Let me thank you i return by saving your life"

"I-i..." Ravi stuttered.

"Go!"

Ravi hesitated for a moment and ran off. He stopped in his tracks and looked back at Stevlon.

"I will have you go down in history my friend. Your redemption will be remembered" He told the bounty hunter.

"That's all i'm asking for" Stevlon smiled at Ravi and then turned towards the teleporter reactor.

Ravi nodded and ran outside. He passed the brother still looking out of the window, as if he had accepted what was going to happen.

Ravi then continued downstairs towards the Redemption and climbed on board.

Stevlon took small steps towards the reactor with his blaster in hand.

"I always knew this bounty hunting gig would be the end of me. I never wanted it anyway"

He stopped in his tracks.

"But that's what happens to a desperate man that lost everything to this wretched war"

He started loaded his blaster.

"Atleast i can finally do something for people that didn't see me as a cheap low life"

He raised his arms and aimed his blaster a the reactor core.

"I geuss this makes me the first Loyal Suicider then"

He took the shot and the reactor immediately overloaded. Sending a massive surge of electric current throughout the entire room and soon the whole station.

Ravi and the Redemption crew watched the destruction of the space station the brothers had build to put their arena's in. They watched it engulf in flame and eventually explode.

Then Fierce's voice appeared again; "We're here Captain. We see you"

Ravi and the crew saw a Republic escort heading their way.

"Good to hear you again Fierce. You won't believe what we had to go through" Ravi told Fierce via commlink.

"I'm curious Captain. Tell me when i get aboard"

"Will do Fierce. But first i need to make note of a man's bravery"

As the crew returned to Coruscant their deactive chips were removed from their heads and each member was offered a time to rest and recover.

Ravi and Bogore had gone back to the Redemption and began breaking down the teleporter.

"It seems the galaxy isn't ready for this after all" Bogore said as he seperated the last piece of his invention.

"Maybe one day it will be" Ravi tried to comfort his friend.

"I'm sure of it. And i'll be there to witness it" Bogore smiled.

Back on the bridge everyone was relaxing. Talking with eachother or playing games. A well deserved rest for the Redemption crew.

"Say. We haven't figured out anyone's roles yet" Skelly wondered.

"I'm pretty sure you are the protector that saved me that night" Ravi looked at his skeletal friend.

"Nope. Wasn't me. I slept through the entire thing" Skelly replied.

"Then who?" Ravi looked around.

Cyborg stepped forward.

"Cyborg. You were the Protector"

"Indeed i was. It seemed ill adviced to reveal my role during the game so i figured i stayed hidden in the shadows. And even though it was the chip acting for me. I still would've saved you if harm cam to you Captain"

"Thank you my friend" Ravi smiled at his friend.

"But who were the Scum then!?" Nalyal wondered.

"Does it really matter. It were the chips messing with our heads anyway" Talia nudged him.

Somewhere in a locker room Natalie put away her rifle and her dark cloak and hood. Cameron, Daniel and Bogore sat with her.

"Should we tell everyone i was the Scum Leader?" Cameron asked.

"Or that i was the murderer..."  Natalie closed the locker silently.

"We were all chosen as Scum. It was a random process" Bogore told the others.

"It were chips in our head. Nothing else. It wasn't us acting on our own. However i don't think it would be wise to the others. You know how sensitive they can be" Daniel adviced.

"Seems fair. Then this will be our little secret" Cameron told the others; "Besides, it's not like we are going to end up in a similar game in the near future"
